GUNUNGSITOLI — SEGARIS.CO – The Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) of North Sumatra Province will soon begin repairing the provincial road section connecting Gunungsitoli with North Nias Regency. The severe damage to this road section has been a public complaint for years.
Acting Head of Gunungsitoli Branch UPT, Dadang Irwansyah, revealed that a budget allocation of IDR 12 billion has been prepared through the 2024 Fiscal Year P-APBD. “IDR 6 billion will be used to repair the Gunungsitoli-Afia road section, and another IDR 6 billion for the Afia-Tuhemberua section in North Nias,” he explained on Friday (11/22/2024).
The tender process for this project is scheduled to begin next Monday, with a target completion before the end of 2024. Dadang emphasized that the repair of this road section is part of the commitment of the North Sumatra PUPR Service to improve the quality of infrastructure in the Nias Islands in stages, according to budget availability.
The Mayor of Gunungsitoli, Sowa’a Laoli, previously expressed concern about the condition of the road in this area. He even met directly with the Head of the North Sumatra PUPR Service in Medan to encourage the acceleration of road repairs.
Field monitoring shows that damage does not only occur on the Gunungsitoli-North Nias section, but also on the route to West Nias. This condition affects public accessibility and economic activity in the area.
The repairs that will be carried out soon are expected to improve connectivity, support regional development, and boost the economy in the Nias Islands. [Nota Lase/***]
