TANAH KARO — SEGARIS.CO – The search operation for landslide victims in Semangat Gunung Village, Merdeka District, Karo Regency, was officially stopped on Monday (11/25/2024).
The last victim found, Jihan Selviani (23), was successfully evacuated at 17.30 WIB by a joint team.
Jihan’s body was immediately taken to Kabanjahe Hospital for the identification process by the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team of the North Sumatra Police Medical and Health Service led by Kompol Aryandi Harahap, assisted by the Tanah Karo Police Medical and Health Service.
The identification process went smoothly, ensuring that all victims had been identified.
“All stages of identification have been completed, and we have handed over the bodies to the families,” said Kompol Aryandi.
The victims were buried in various locations according to their respective domiciles, such as Semangat Gunung Village, Tanjungbalai, Asahan, Lubukpakam, Medan, and Langkat.
With the discovery of Jihan, the total number of identified landslide victims has reached ten people.
Regional support and recovery
Tanahkaro Police Chief, AKBP Eko Yulianto, expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
He emphasized that his party had worked as hard as possible in the evacuation and identification process, and ensured that the bodies were handed over in a decent condition.
“We are trying our best so that the families of the victims get certainty. Hopefully the families left behind will be given fortitude in facing this ordeal,” said AKBP Eko.
The Police Chief also stated that clearing landslide material and opening road access in the affected areas will continue to be carried out to restore conditions.
He reminded the public to remain alert to the possibility of further disasters, considering that rainfall in the area is still high.
The operation involving the Tanah Karo Police, Brimob, BPBD, TNI, and volunteers provided relief for the families of the victims who had been waiting with great hope.
Although the evacuation process has ended, attention is now turning to regional recovery and efforts to prevent disasters in the future. [RE/***]
