PEMATANGSIANTAR — SEGARIS.CO — MAYOR of Pematangsiantar, Susanti Dewayani inaugurated the Prima Drinking Water Zone [ZAMP] supported by the Ministry of PUPR, Pematangsiantar City Government, Perumda Tirta Uli and USAID marked by the signing of an inscription and ribbon cutting at the Meranti Permai Housing Complex, Jalan Meranti Ujung, Pematangsiantar City, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
ZAMP Pematangsiantar City is the fourth project in Indonesia after Magelang, Malang and Salatiga and the first project in North Sumatra Province and as a pilot project serving 213 households in Meranti Permai Housing Complex with safe water quality ready to drink without boiling.
“The people of Pematangsiantar City, especially the residents of Meranti Permai Housing, are very fortunate to be the pilot project for ZAMP, where the water quality is safe to drink without having to be boiled,” said Susanti Dewayani.

She said that the Pematangsiantar City Government will continue to socialize the issue of safe drinking water, even without being boiled it is hygienic, and the government will monitor its quality.
“The public does not need to worry about drinking water from ZAMP,” said Susanti Dewayani
President Director of Perumda Tirta Uli, Arianto said that the ZAMP pilot project in Meranti Permai Housing had started in February 2024.
“Pematangsiantar City as the fourth pilot project after Magelang, Malang and Salatiga. The ZAMP implementation area, namely Meranti Permai Housing, has met the requirements for the implementation of the safe drinking water project without being boiled,” said Arianto.
According to him, the implementation can run well because of the support from the government, stakeholders, and USAID.
Then, USAID Deputy Mission Director, Irene Nicholsen, mentioned the importance of ZAMP in accessing safe drinking water from the tap.
He said that Indonesia is a priority country, where USAID is committed to building 45 percent of ZAMP by 2030.
“USAID will continue to increase collaboration with local governments to create safe drinking water.
Ready to drink without boiling
M Jamil Nainggolan, Head of the Laboratory Sub-Division of Perumda Tirta Uli said, “With ZAMP, all consumers of Perumda Tirta Uli in this housing complex can drink water directly from the tap, no need to boil it again.”
Jamil Nainggolan said that the suitability of prime drinking water is controlled through a tool, namely a multi-parameter liquid analyzer to determine residual chlorine, temperature and pH of the water.
“We control the quality of the water for 24 hours, morning, afternoon and evening, so that the quality of the water is truly maintained and suitable for drinking without boiling,” he said.
