MEDAN — SEGARIS.CO — Dozens of students who are members of the Siantar-Simalungun Democracy Care Student Group held a peaceful demonstration in front of the North Sumatra Regional Police Office, Tuesday (11/19/2024).
They expressed their support for the North Sumatra Regional Police to immediately follow up on the report of the spread of a hoax video entitled “Dracula Dynasty”.
The report, which allegedly violates the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE), was filed by Sabarudin Sirait with report number LP/B1606/XI/2024/SPKT/POLDA North Sumatra on November 7, 2024.
Students’ peaceful appeal
This action was led by Andry Napitupulu, who in his speech emphasized that the demonstration was carried out peacefully. He asked the police to avoid repressive actions against the demonstrators.
“We hope that the North Sumatra Police can immediately investigate and arrest the perpetrators of the spread of the hoax video ‘Dracula Dynasty’ which has triggered unrest in the Simalungun Regency community. This step is important to maintain a conducive situation ahead of the Simalungun Regent and Deputy Regent Election,” said Andry.
He also added that their action was based on a number of official documents, including a letter from the Simalungun Bawaslu with the number 195 / PP.00.02 / K.SU-21 / 11/2024 and a police report number STTLP / B / 1606 / 2024 / SPKT / North Sumatra Police.
Uphold the Neutrality of the Apparatus
Jhon Nababan, one of the orators of the action, expressed his hope that the North Sumatra Police Chief, Whisnu Hermawan, could maintain the independence of the police apparatus.
“We ask the Police Chief to immediately order his members to arrest the perpetrators of the spread of hoaxes that have created unrest in the Simalungun community. The neutrality of the apparatus must be upheld, especially in a political momentum like this,” said Jhon in his speech.
Urge from Youth Figures
Ahmad Fauzi, a Simalungun youth figure, also voiced the importance of law enforcement.
“The law must be enforced without discrimination. If there are individuals who spread hoaxes on certain orders, the apparatus must immediately investigate them. Fighting in politics is natural, but don’t bring each other down with slander,” said Ahmad firmly.
The action was closed with the submission of demands
The action ended with the symbolic submission of demands to representatives of the North Sumatra Police. Andry hopes that their aspirations will be forwarded to the North Sumatra Police Chief.
“We believe that the voices of the people we represent will be heard by the Police Chief. Thank you for the cooperation of all parties in keeping this action peaceful,” concluded Andry before dispersing the masses in an orderly manner. [Samsudin Harahap/***]
